Twilite False Indigo

A PrairieBlues™ False Indigo Introduction

Baptisia x variicolor ‘Twilite’ PP#19011

The first of our Baptisia hybrids to be selected and introduced, the Twilite false indigo is an extremely robust and vigorous perennial. Our original plant at peak measured 5’ tall x 9’ wide with over 1,500 inflorescences after 15 years! Be sure to give this large perennial plenty of room in the back of the border, or use it as a screen. The deep-violet flowers with their lemon-yellow keels are displayed above the handsome blue-green foliage. In warmer climates the vegetative growth may be so vigorous that many of the flowers will be hidden in the foliage. It blooms from mid- to late-May into early June in northern Illinois. Selected from a cross of Baptisia australis x B. sphaerocarpa conducted by Dr. Jim Ault at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois. Hardy to USDA Zones 4 – 7.
