Sandstorm False Indigo

A Prairieblues™ Introduction

Baptisia 'Sandstorm' PP#25926

A second-generation B. australis x leucophaea hybrid, ‘Sandstorm’ not only is one of the most floriferous hybrids we have developed, it also pushes the boundary for color with its light sandy-yellow flowers with violet markings that fade as the flowers age. The oversized blossoms are held above the foliage on scapes upwards of 24" in length. Peak bloom is in early June in USDA Zone 5. The plant exhibits a strong vase-shaped habit in spring, becoming more rounded as the season progresses. The original plant (8 years old) was 43" tall x 48" wide in the spring and 60" wide in late autumn of 2010.

USDA Zones 4 to 7 at least. Introduction #CG07-008. Developed by Dr. Jim Ault at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois.
