This hybrid with its heavy B. australis influence was selected for its incredibly saturated dark violet-purple flowers on a plant that otherwise resembles B. australis. Peak bloom is in early June in USDA Zone 5. Flowers give way to a vigorous plant with attractive blue-green foliage. The original plant (6 years old) was 45" tall x 56" wide in the spring and 68" wide in late autumn of 2010.
USDA Zones 4 to 7 at least. Introduction #CG07-002.
A complex hybrid developed from the species Baptisia australis, B. leucophaea, and B. sphaerocarpa. Developed by Dr. Jim Ault at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois.
Retail availability in 2012 or 2013.
