Lunar Eclipse False Indigo

A Prairieblues™ False Indigo Introduction

Baptisia 'Lunar Eclipse' PP#25875

The Lunar Eclipse false indigo was aptly named for its unique flowers that are initially a light lemon to cream color, aging to light and ultimately medium-dark violet, producing an intriguing effect unlike any other false indigo in cultivation. In its youth a plant is vase-shaped and broader than tall, but matures into a statuesque garden focal point, with a dense, rounded head of foliage topping the stout bare stems below. A mature plant can grow to 5’ tall x 4’ wide. A complex hybrid developed from our previously released Baptisia ‘Midnight’, ‘Lunar Eclipse’ combines four species, Baptisia albescens, B. australis, B. bracteata (B. leucophaea), and B. tinctoria. Developed by Dr. Jim Ault at the Chicago Botanic Garden in Glencoe, Illinois. Hardy to USDA Zones 4 – 8.
